On the convergence of the modified Levenberg-Marquardt method with a nonmonotone second order Armijo type line search

چکیده
Recently, Fan [4, Math. Comput., 81 (2012), pp. 447-466] proposed a modified Levenberg-Marquardt (MLM) method for nonlinear equations. Using a trust region technique, global and cubic convergence of the MLM method is proved [4] under the local error bound condition, which is weaker than nonsingularity. The purpose of the paper is to investigate the convergence properties of the MLM method with a line search technique. Since the search direction of the MLM method may be not a descent direction, standard line searches can not be used directly. In this paper, we propose a nonmonote second order Armijo line search which guarantees the global convergence of the MLM method. Moreover, we prove that the unit step will be always accepted finally. Then cubic convergence of the MLM method is preserved under the local error bound condition.

One-Dimensional Modeling of Helicopter-Borne Electromagnetic Data Using Marquardt-Levenberg Including Backtracking-Armijo Line Search Strategy
In the last decades, helicopter-borne electromagnetic (HEM) method became a focus of interest in the fields of mineral exploration, geological mapping, groundwater resource investigation and environmental monitoring. As a standard approach, researchers use 1-D inversion of the acquired HEM data to recover the conductivity/resistivity-depth models. Since the relation between HEM data and model ...

In this paper, we develop a new nonmonotone Armijo-type line search for LS (Liu-Storey) conjugate gradient method for minimizing functions having Lipschitz continuous partial derivatives. The nonmonotone line search can guarantee the global convergence of original LS method under some mild conditions. AMS Subject Classification: 90C30, 65K05
متن کاملA Semismooth Inexact Newton-type Method for the Solution of Optimal Power Flow Problem
The paper presents a semismooth inexact Newton-type method for solving optimal power flow (OPF) problem. By introducing the nonlinear complementarity problem (NCP) function, the Karush-KuhnTucker (KKT) conditions of OPF model are transformed equivalently into a set of semismooth nonlinear algebraic equations. Then the set of semismooth equations can be solved by an improved inexact LevenbergMar...

متن کاملOn efficiency of nonmonotone Armijo-type line searches
Abstract Monotonicity and nonmonotonicity play a key role in studying the global convergence and the efficiency of iterative schemes employed in the field of nonlinear optimization, where globally convergent and computationally efficient schemes are explored. This paper addresses some features of descent schemes and the motivation behind nonmonotone strategies and investigates the efficiency of...
